Study Permit

If you are 16 years of age or older , you can apply for a student visa to study in the UK by taking into consideration the following things:-

if you are 16 or 17, you must have your parents’ permission; you must provide proof of this when applying.

Six months before the commencement of your study is the earliest you may apply for a visa. Typically, it takes 3 weeks to receive a decision on your visa.

The duration of your course and the type of study you have already done in the UK will determine how long you can stay.

You can often stay in the UK for up to 5 years if you are 18 or older and enrolled in a degree-level programme. You can normally stay in the UK for up to 2 years if it’s below the degree level.

When you can travel to the UK

You can arrive before your course starts. This can be either:

  • up to 1 week before, if your course lasts 6 months or less
  • up to 1 month before, if your course lasts more than 6 months

You must not travel to the UK before the start date given on your visa, no matter when your course starts.
