What is the Process?
Employer-specific work Permit
You may work in Canada with an employer-specific work permit if you meet the requirements listed on it, such as
- The name of the individual employer,
- The hours you can work, and
- (If applicable) the place where you can work
Your employer must give you permission before you apply for an employer-specific work permit.
your work contract requires written confirmation of 1 of the following:
- A copy of an LMIA (labour market impact assessment)
- A job offer number (for LMIA-exempt employees)
Your employer must use the Employer Portal to obtain this number.

Eligibility
Depending on where you are when you apply for your work visa, there are particular requirements you must fulfil.
However, irrespective of where you apply or the kind of work permit you request, you must :-
- Prove to an officer that you have the means to support yourself and your family while you are in Canada and to return home, and that you intend to leave the country when your work visa expires.
- observe the law and don't have any criminal history (you may be asked to provide a police clearance certificate);
- not pose a threat to the security of Canada
- be in good health and, if necessary, undergo a medical exam;
- Not intend to work for a company with the status "ineligible" on the list of companies that did not meet the requirements;
- Never intend to work for a company that regularly provides exotic dance, escort services, or erotic massages;
- provide the officer with any additional documentation they request to verify your right to enter the nation.
Post- Arrival
In order to enter Canada, you must have
- Your ID card
- Your travel documents, including any passports or visas you may need to enter the country.
- You might also be required to provide evidence of the approval of your work permit application. You can accomplish this by displaying your letter of introduction from the point of entry to the border services officer.
This letter will be sent to you if
- Applied electronically or provided us with your email address on the work permit application form so we may contact you.
- This letter may be printed or you may bring an electronic copy with you.
Additionally, you must provide proof of your claims, such as
- If necessary, you'll also need a copy of the certificat d'acceptation du Québec (CAQ), if your employer needed an LMIA and you'll be working in Quebec.
- You'll need the offer of employment number your employer received when they submitted the offer of employment through the Employer Portal (if you are LMIA exempt and coming from outside of Canada).
